Zunheboto is also known as Zunhebo in Sumi dialect. It is a town in the state of Nagaland, India. Zunheboto is the location of the largest Baptist church in Asia, the Sumi Baptist Church, Zunheboto.
Geography
Zunheboto is inhabited by the Sumi Naga tribe who are known for their martial skills. The word Zunheboto is derived from the Sumi words 'zunhebo', the name of a flowering shrub Leucosceptrum, and 'to' or 'ato', hill top. The 'zunhebo' plant grows abundantly in this region and the town was built on the top of the rolling hills hence the name, 'Zunhebo-to' or Zunheboto. Having an area of about 1255 sq.km and altitude of 1313.69m above sea level, the district is bounded by Mokokchung and some parts of Tuensang in north, Kohima and Phek in the south, Wokha in the west, Kiphire and parts of Tuensang in the East. The Satoi range, a natural habitat of the state's bird, Blyth's tragopan, and the Ghosu bird sanctuary is situated in this district. Important rivers that flow in this district are the Doyang, Tizu, Dikhu (Nanga), Horki, and Langki.

Demographics
As of 2011, Zunheboto had a population of 22,809. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. The average literacy rate is 85%, higher than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 77%. Some 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Climate
Zunheboto lies north of the Satoi Range. Due to its elevation, Zunheboto features a more moderate version of a humid subtropical climate (Cwa. Zunheboto has cool winters and hot very rainy summers. The coldest months are from December to February, when frost occurs and in the higher altitudes snowfall occurs occasionally. During the height of summers, from June–August, temperature ranges an average of 80–90 °F (27–32 °C). Heavy rainfall occurs during summer.
Demographics
According to the 2011 census, Zunheboto district has a population of 140,757, roughly equal to the nation of Saint Lucia. This gives it a ranking of 598th in India (out of a total of 640). Zunheboto has a sex ratio of 981 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 86.26%.
Zunheboto is the home to the Sumi Nagas, a warrior tribe of Nagaland. Head hunting was practiced extensively until the advent of the Christian missionaries who converted the warriors to Christianity. Today the people are peaceful and hardworking, practicing agriculture as their main occupation. The district is also home to the largest baptist church in Asia, the Sumi Baptist Church, Zunheboto.
Education
Today it is home to the Nagaland University whose campus is situated in the village of Lumami in the sub division of Akuluto. This has become the cultural center for the people of Nagaland, as all the Nagas irrespective of tribes come to study here.
