Jalgaon is a city in western India. The city is located in northern Maharashtra, and serves as the administrative headquarter of the Jalgaon district. Jalgaon is nicknamed "Banana village" as the region contributes approximately two third of Maharashtra's banana production.
Jalgaon was divided in 1911, with East Khandesh covering the territory that is now Jalgaon. After the 1956 reorganisation of India's states, East Khandesh became part of Bombay State. Four years later, in 1960, it became part of the newly formed Maharashtra and was renamed Jalgaon.
Jalgaon is a district of Maharashtra, India, earlier known as East Khandesh until 21 October 1960. It has an area of 11,765 km² and a population of 4,224,442 as of the 2011 census. Its headquarters is the city of Jalgaon.

Jalgaon Airport
Jalgaon airport was built in 1973 by the Public Works Department. The Jalgaon Municipal council took over its operations in April 1997 and handed it over to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company in April 2007. The Government of Maharashtra signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Airports Authority of India (AAI) to upgrade the existing airfield in July 2009. The then President of India, Pratibha Patil laid the foundation stone for the development and expansion of the Jalgaon airport in June 2010.
Railway
The Jalgaon district contributes 16 percent of India's banana production, as well as 66 percent of the total banana cultivation in Maharashtra.
The city is served by Jalgaon Junction railway station. The railway connects the region to New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The area also has an airport, which was inaugurated in 2012 by Indian President Pratibha Patil.

Kavayatri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University was established in the city of Jalgaon on 15 August 1989. Government Polytechnic Jalgaon was established in 1960.
