I have shared two versions of this soup. A clear one and a thick one. For younger babies, you can feed dal clear soup. But maha doesn’t like the clear soup. So I puree the whole dal with all the ingredients added and make it thick and creamy. She loves it that way.
Things to remember when making soups:
1)Always wash your dal really well.
2)You can use any veggies of your choice in this soup.
3)You can feed this soup in the evening, this makes a light before dinner meal for your baby.
4)If your baby needs some taste in their food, you can add some salt too.
How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:
Start by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn the heat off and leave them to stay in the hot water till use.
How to Make Dal Soup:
Ingredients:
Toor Dal / Tuvaram paruppu – 2 tablespoon
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1/4 teaspoon
Garlic – 1 fat clove peeled
Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi – a pinch
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1/2 teaspoon
Water – 1 cup
Method:
Wash Toor dal really well. Now take it in a pressure cooker along with all ingredients and cook for 4 whistles.
Now turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself.
Open the cooker.
Now for dal clear soup, you can strain the dal in a sieve. The strained liquid is dal clear soup. You can feed that too babies less than 6 months. Pour it in a sterilized feeding bottle and feed your baby.
For Dal soup, take the strained dal in a mixer and add some of the cooking liquid to it. Puree till smooth. Pour this into bowls and feed your baby.
