Korea State, currently spelled as Koriya, was a princely state of the British Empire of India.[1] After Indian independence in 1947, the ruler of Korea acceded to the Union of India on 1 January 1948, and Koriya was made part of Surguja District of Central Provinces and Berar province. In January 1950, “Central Provinces and Berar” province was renamed Madhya Pradesh state. After November 2000, Korea and the former princely state of Changbhakar became Koriya district of Chhattisgarh state.
Korea had an area of 1,631 sq. miles and a population of 126,874 as of 1941.
Location
The state of Korea, which included 400 villages, was in what is now Chhattisgarh state. It bordered Rewa to the north and also to the southwest; Surguja State to the east; the British district of Bilaspur (Central Provinces) to the south; and Changbhakar State to the west.
Koriya district, also commonly spelled as Korea district, is a district in the north-western part of the Chhattisgarh state in Central India. The administrative headquarters of the district is Baikunthpur.

Koriya District known for its educational capacity. Students from the nearby region come to Koriya district for higher education. Koriya District consists of five subdivisions of Baikunthpur, Bharatpur, Chirmiri, Manendragarh and Sonhat; five tehsils and five Blocks of Baikunthpur, Bharatpur, Khadgawan, Manendragarh and Sonhat and a Municipal corporation of Chirimiri . The district encompasses 653 villages, 5 Janpad Panchayats, 236 garam Panchayats, 2 Nagar Panchayats and 3 municipality.
Tourist places
Guru Ghasidas National Park It is worth mentioning that after being persecuted in this region, the last known Indian cheetah was sighted in Korea District in 1951.

1. Amritdhara Waterfall
This beautiful waterfall is located on the National Highway 43 and 8 kilometers away from Nagpur Gram Panchayat, it is a beautiful view of the nature that situated on the river of Hasdeo. Every year on Maha Shivratri , festival called Amritdhara Mahotsav are organized by Korea District Administration.
2. Gaurghat Waterfall
This waterfall situated on Hasdeo river that is away 33 kilometers from the district headquarters of Korea.
3. Ramdaha WaterFall
This is a very beautiful waterfall on the river Banas which is situated under Bharatpur janpad panchayat. During the month of December and January many citizen come here for Picnic.This waterfall is completely naturally developed, which disperses its beauty in the rainy days, since the waterfall is completely natural, so the local citizens are well aware of it.
4. Pondi Jagannath Temple
It is located in Gram panchayat of Pondi under Khadgava Janpad Panchayat . This temple belongs to Utkal society and a form of the Puri Jagannath temple of Odisha, where the festival is organized in every year on Maha Shivndapa.
5. How to Reach
Korea District is well connected to some main cities of Chhattisgarh via road and connecting train route.
Via Raod :
It is located on Katni – Gumla National highways no 43. There is direct bus to Raipur ,Ambikapur ,Bilaspur ,Varanasi and Allahabad , Katni.
Via Train :
There is direct train between Baikunthpur to Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Raipur Durg, Jabalpur , Katni.
Anuppur District is around 100 km from Baikunthpur and people can travel main city of India through Anuppur railway station.
